Guidelines & Philosophy

Inclusivity First - Whether you’re a Parkrun jogger, a 10km eventer, a seasoned marathon runner or just here for the company, you are very welcome. Speed or fitness level are less important, it's being part of a club are what really matters. Bring a positive attitude, your running kit, and a smile. No Fees, Just Fun - We’re a free club. There are no membership fees, sign-ups or money to pay. This is because our club is funded by sponsors. Just show up and join in. You can also be a member of another group, fine by us. We see all other groups locally or further afield as fellow runners.Relaxed and Flexible - You can incorporate our sessions into your schedules or training plans. Our runs are social and to be enjoyed. You can run or jog at your own pace. There is no pressure or expectation. We want people to feel comfortable, accepted and have a sense of belonging. There is plenty of encouragement. If you want to train hard that's fine, we can also add hill sessions, speed work and track days.Safety is Key - In winter please wear bright or reflective clothing in low light. On all runs be mindful of traffic and other hazards. Inform a run leader if you’re feeling unwell or go home early. We look after everyone and make sure back markers are helped and everyone returns safely. We have only ever lost one Rascal. It was in Notton woods but he lived to tell the tale and still comes!Respect everyone and the routes we use - we are considerate of fellow runners, other people and the environment. We leave no mess and help keep our running routes clean. We have volunteer litter pickers who help minimise pollution in our village and local area. We give to the community.

History

Royston Rascals Running Club began as a simple idea: to bring local runners together for a fun, supportive, safe way to run or jog. It is well known that staying active, being fit physically and having social contact is beneficial in lots of ways. It is also good for our mental health and it is easier to run in a group that provides help, motivation and shared participation. We were founded on 24th March 2024 by Rascal number 1, who was convinced there must be other Rascals around just waiting to be found. Our very first run took place on 2nd April 2024 with just two Rascals. After the Facebook group became known in the village in August 2024, the small group of 10 quickly grew to 180 members as of January 2025. A supportive and welcoming community was created. We have member Rascals celebrate personal bests, share many laughs and explore lots of the scenic routes together around Royston. Rascals have done events from Parkrun 5km to Ultra marathon 50km in England, Scotland and South Africa. The 'mighty green & black' shirts have been seen at events locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Look out, there is a Rascal about!

Our Sponsors

We are very thankful to our generous sponsors who make it possible for us to run this club free of charge to all.

We are always seeking more sponsors whether it is a company, organisation or firm that is local, regional, national or international and philanthropists. Your logo goes on our shirts and website and you can deliver your message and be associated with us. Everytime a Rascal wears a shirt and is outside your advertising will be seen whether it is on Facebook, a local newspaper, other social media, running events across the country, on television and sometimes abroad

Contact

Our Facebook group is highly active, and is where most general information and updates are posted and queries answered. Rascals share their stories of training, events, challenges and successes.
Joining the Facebook group is provisional membership. To become an actual Rascal you have to run with us and be active.
